But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

-Isaiah 40:31

Toch Arellano started his career in professional photography at a tender age of 17. His first studio was at the family residence in Eisenhower St., Greenhills, San Juan Metro Manila.

Toch's initial exposure to the industry was in sports photography, where he covered sports activities and featured competitive athletes. Shortly after, commercial advertising photography became part of Toch's activities. However people from the community wanted their portraits done. They came for individual portraits, couple shots, family pictures, PR photos and graduation photographs. Since then, many patronized his style of doing portraits. In a short time, portraits became synonymous to Toch's name. Toch became a popular portrait photographer, capturing images of people in various formats and unique styles.

In the early part of his professional career a colleague and a master of Toch labeled him to be the sleeping giant of Philippine Photography. Commenting further, Dick Baldovino said "may you wake up soon." Indeed, Toch awakened. Today, Toch is recognized as an institution and a pillar in Philippine Photography.

As trendsetter and innovator, Toch created his own style of doing portraits, copying no one. Toch is attracted to the former ways of doing portraiture and to the styles and methods of olden masters.

Photography has no periods only trends. Toch developed his own taste and style in portraiture that is patronized by his customers.

In recent times, many copycats have emerged in the industry and produced portraits using Toch's approach and technique specially those that offer graduation photographs. These photographers and retouchers had drawn experience under Toch and trained under him as former staff members of his studio.

A customer once commented, many have copied Toch but no one comes close to the original Toch.

Today photography adapts a new name, Digital Imaging. In the advent of high-end technology, the imaging process is accomplished through Digital Cameras and powerful computers. In the near future silver halide and film may be obsolete. Toch learned a new method and process just in time in order to cope with the rapid changes taking place today.

Now fully digitized, Toch dropped the use of a film darkroom and now utilizes digitized images in the computer to express his creativity. A new car with the same driver is the closest Toch could describe himself for being a fogy using digitized images in digital imaging.

Apart from the vast space in the world, Toch's studio in Makati City can accommodate 30 persons in a single group setting. The studio has service s for hair and make-up styling and a dressing room coupled with different costumes and wares for informal, formal and creative sittings. The studio uses electronic flash for portraiture and tungsten lights for product photography.
Speaking regularly in camera clubs and photo organizations including educational classrooms in various institutions, Toch is an educator and judge to photo contests, exhibits and other photo competitions.

Toch organized the Society of Portrait Photographers of the Philippines (SPPP) and was its founding president for four years. Apart from this, Toch was involved in the academe as a professor and member of the faculty of the Mass Communications Department for Assumption College and De La Salle University.
